Singapore office goes from strength to strength

About to celebrate its fifth birthday, Semco Maritime’s office in Singapore has come a long way since it opened its doors in November 2006. From a solo sales operation, the office now buzzes with a 35- strong team. And early in 2012, the team will move to larger premises with space for up to 100 employees. So, what’s behind the strong growth?
Close to customers
With some of the busiest yards in the world, Singapore plays a central role in the global offshore manufacturing industry. The office in Singapore keeps us in close contact with our customers at the shipyards and provides a vital link to our projects in the southern hemisphere.
The Singapore office is currently working on various projects, delivering PAGA/PABX and other offshore telecommunication systems, as well as fire-fighting projects, including water mist, deluge and foam systems. And the newly opened Global Engineering Service Centre provides engineering services to major oil companies in the North Sea area.
Well-placed for success
A recent success story is the delivery of a radio communications project for an FPSO destined for Brazilian waters. Darren Lim, Product Manager says, “The project has been a great success and was completed on schedule and within budget. Projects like this are helping us gain a lot of expertise in the special requirements for oil rigs that will be working in the Brazilian sector. And because we’re close to our customers geographically, we are able to quickly respond to their needs.”
With a mix of nationalities from China, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, The Philippines, Singapore and Myanmar, the team is truly representative of the region. And of course, there are a few Danish colleagues adding some European flavour. But it’s not only staff numbers that are growing – with four employees becoming parents this year – the office should soon have its own junior football team.
