Semco Maritime signs contract with DONG Energy

DONG Energy will pass over the responsibilities for maintenance and modification of oil and gas installations in the North Sea to Semco Maritime. Future plants in the UK and Norway may also be part of the contract.

Semco Maritime A/S, a leading Danish engineering and contracting company within the international oil and gas industry, has entered a four-year EPCI contract with DONG Energy A/S. The contract includes FEED Studies and Engineering as well as Maintenance and Modification of the energy group’s offshore assets in the Danish part of the North Sea. The framework contract amounts to around DKK 100 million per year and it will also include installations in the Norwegian and British sector.

- The agreement with DONG Energy is a great breakthrough within a strategically important area, since we expect a large part of our future turnover to come from service, maintenance and modifications within the oil and gas installations in the North Sea area. We are full of expectations, especially to the Norwegian market, says Vice President, Carsten Nielsen, who is responsible for sales and business development at Semco Maritime.

The four-year contract, with an option for prolongation, will take effect from June 2011: The contract will comprise the fields Siri, Cecilie, Nini and Nini East, and Semco Maritime will make FEED studies and bring proposals for improvements and efficiency improvements of the oil and gas production in an integrated cooperation with DONG E&P staff.

DONG: We believe in Semco Maritime
The person in charge of DONG E&P’s technology, Senior Vice President Lars Bruvoll, says that based on parameters like safety, environment, competencies and quality, Semco Maritime gave the best tender for the EPCI contract. DONG E&P has a long-standing cooperation with Semco Maritime among others in connection with modification projects at the Siri field. - Semco Maritime is one of our trusted suppliers, we are sure that they can solve these tasks, and we anticipate a long-term cooperation. Our fields in the Danish part of the North Sea are growing older and we need to work hard on keeping the costs for maintenance and modifications at a reasonable level in order to maintain a profitable production, says Lars Bruvoll. He adds that DONG E&P’s growth strategy in Norway and the UK can open up new possibilities for Semco Maritime as the energy group acquires installations in these markets.

After two years with economic recession, Semco Maritime anticipates a growth of more than 20% in 2011. Semco Maritime employs a staff of around 1500 people worldwide and this is expected to increase in the coming months.
