However, the communication lines need to be connected to the main-land and this is where the, very often neglected, onshore location comes into play.

In most cases the onshore location, whether it is an onshore substation, a marine coordination office or a transit area, is also a vital communication hub where all the offshore communication lines are connected to the onshore communication infrastructure.

This is a vital part of the communication setup. Without stable and reliable communication lines between the offshore wind farm and the onshore location, the marine coordination cannot do their job and all offshore activities are stopped until the communication lines are fully functional again.

Without communication there will be no operation.
