All onshore activities will be carried out at Semco Maritime’s Hanøytangen facility, one of Northern Europe’s most capable industrial hubs for advanced offshore operations. Hanøytangen offers a unique set of advantages for projects of this nature, including:
-
Exceptional sailing depths, enabling the handling of large and complex floating structures without restriction
-
Northern Europe’s largest dry dock, providing unique capacity for safe, controlled, and efficient dismantling of large steel structures
-
A strategic location in Hjeltefjorden, offering optimal logistics and proximity to key maritime infrastructure
-
Onsite accommodation (camp) and a modern canteen, ensuring efficient operations, rapid mobilization, and high-quality working conditions for large project teams throughout execution
Circular industrial symbiosis at Hanøytangen
Hanøytangen is also home to Norscrap West, a company with long-standing experience in recycling floating vessels and offshore structures, supported by extensive competence in sustainable material processing. The industrial symbiosis between the companies located at Hanøytangen has for many years been a core part of Semco Maritime’s long-term strategy for efficient, responsible, and circular project execution.
“When the collaboration and capabilities within this ecosystem contribute to winning projects that we have worked strategically and long-term to position ourselves for, it is both valuable and genuinely rewarding for the entire organization,” says Thor Andre Askildsen.
Scope of work
As the onshore contractor, Semco Maritime will be responsible for receiving, handling, and structurally dismantling key components from the floating wind turbine, including:
-
Dismantling of the nacelle and rotor, and subsequent dispatch to OEM-specified facilities
-
Dismantling of the tower, floater, and keel
-
Removal of marine growth, material segregation, and handling of hazardous substances
-
Documented recycling and material recovery in accordance with applicable environmental requirements
-
Efficient logistics and waste management supported by Hanøytangen’s extensive infrastructure
The project will also provide valuable insight into material condition and performance after nearly five years of operation, supporting further verification of Stiesdal Offshore’s industrial TetraSub foundation concept.
Statement
“We are proud to be selected as the onshore partner for such a pioneering project. With its deep-water access, quay depths down to 90 meters, and Northern Europe’s largest dry dock, Hanøytangen is an ideal hub for safe and efficient decommissioning operations. We look forward to supporting Global Maritime and the project partners with our specialist expertise in marine operations and material handling,” says Thor Andre Askildsen, Director Business Development & Improvements at Semco Maritime.
The project represents an important contribution to the development of future industrial floating foundation solutions, and Semco Maritime will execute the work with strong focus on safety, quality, and sustainable processes.
