The wind farms are placed in Jammerland Bay southwest of Kalundborg and Omø Syd southwest of Slagelse and will have a generating capacity of 560 MW, which will equal powering more than 500.000 homes with green energy and will lead to an annual reduction of more than 750.000 tons of CO2.

The scope of the study comprises optimization of the electrical infrastructure, hereunder electrical grid studies and evaluating several scenarios of how to bring the power from the wind turbines to the grid onshore. This includes assessment of the sub-sea cable layout and design as well as onshore/offshore substation topologies. Capital expenditure vs. operational expenditure will be assessed to ensure the overall total cost of ownership is as optimised as possible.

The study will be delivered in close cooperation with European Energy to ensure that local requirements are met.

“We are very pleased that European Energy A/S has chosen Semco Maritime for this study and we are proud that our services can play a part in the maturation of this project. We hope to see this project come to life, serving as a critical contribution to the green transition of our society”, says Tommy Flindt, Director of Engineering & Technology, Offshore Wind, Semco Maritime.

Semco Maritime have been part of the offshore wind industry since the early 2000’s through engineer-procure-construct (EPC) projects with long-term partners Bladt Industries and ISC Consulting Engineers, as well as through offshore engineering studies related to high-voltage transmission, offshore foundation, substation structures, geotechnical assessments and high voltage sea cabling.

“We have selected Semco Maritime as we recognize their capabilities within offshore wind and we think they are the right partner to help mature this project. We look forward to seeing the completion of our nearshore projects and are pleased to have Semco Maritime on the team”, says Knud Erik Andersen, CEO, European Energy A/S.

The engineering study was kicked off July 2020 and will be finalized by October 2020 by the study team located in Denmark.
