Using discarded waste bins from Esbjerg Municipality and surplus wood from a local carpenter, Carton Byg, Lokalsjakket constructed new containers, and with the help of young people from another local initiative, Korn180, the containers have also been beautifully decorated.
Now employees at the headquarters in Esbjerg can deposit their bottles and cans in the awesome-looking containers and once filled, the bottles and cans are collected by Lokalsjakket, who also keeps the bottle deposit.
The vision behind this initiative is to create employment opportunities for individuals who are otherwise distanced from the traditional job market – and the project aligns with our Climate Partnership with Esbjerg Municipality as an example of how we, as a company, can positively impact the community in which we operate.
Who is “Lokalsjakket”: Lokalsjakket (the local work gang) is a project, supported by Den A.P. Møllerske Støttefond, which helps bridge the gap between socially vulnerable individuals and local businesses. The project was initiated jointly by Blå Kors Danmark and KFUM's Social Work.
The employees of Lokalsjakket are early retirees and receivers of social support who face social or mental challenges that prevent them from holding regular employment.
